Buying Clomid, I bought this book because I liked the way it looks.

On the cover appears a tightly cropped view of a cell phone tower disguised as an enormous palm tree framed against a lavender-colored sky. Fletcher proposes instead that Los Angelinos learn to embrace the various thriving “freakologies” in this manmade thing. Houston’s similarly refigured bayous are a local incubator of lively freakologies as anyone who has taken a canoe sponsored by our friends at the Buffalo Bayou Partnership can attest. Buffalo Bayou, which morphs into the Houston Ship Channel as it progresses towards Galveston Bay is particularly varied and I am curious to see how it is altered in the coming years the BBP works to enact its long-term master plan, Buying Clomid.

Infrastructural City makes some really interesting observations but rarely goes beyond to a critical analysis that would suggest new action. Varnelis writes in the introduction that Los Angeles cannot continue to develop along its current trajectory, but after reading the essays I wasn’t sure I understood what specifically the authors hoped would happen. Network ecologies seem to be the unplanned result of a variety of circumstances. How can they be implemented and controlled to produce a desired result. Maybe if we stopped buying stuff the traffic would get better. Since that is already happening thanks to the recession we might not have long to wait.
