I went out and checked out wacdesignstudio’s quixotic parking lot sale. I liked the furniture and the idea of just occupying a corner of the old Landmark lot, but trying to portray their kind of business as sustainable model (as opposed to the many discount furniture stores along 45–Gallery Furniture being the leading example) is frankly silly.
The prices they were selling their locally built, handcrafted furniture for were pretty high–they kind of prices only upper-middle class and wealthy people could afford. The furniture stores along 45, whatever other faults they may have, provide furniture for working class people that they can afford.

The price for each piece was reflective in the overhead, (computer, our time and labor, electricity, and tooling), just like any other business. Also, these pieces for sale were wacdesignstudio’s prototypes, meaning that they were the first objects made if they were ever mass produced. We were never making a class statement with the work, we were attempting to sell furniture in a commercial space, we were interested in what was exactly a “responsible” business model. I apologize if we did not meet your price point. Thank you for coming out on Sunday.
